Deadline: March 1, 2021

Applications are open for the American Ethnological Society (AES) Editorial Internship Program 2021. Begun in 2016, the AES Editorial Intern program is a small group composed of graduate students from universities around the world. Intern responsibilities include creative intellectual teamwork at annual conferences, on social media such as Facebook and Twitter, as well as generating new content for the AE/AES website.

The goal is to expand conversations about anthropology in general, and also to share and supplement the rich body of scholarship produced in the pages of American Ethnologist. Current projects include AE author interviews, curating collections of AE articles, writing and editing online essays, contributing to AE/AES social media accounts, and creative participation in and reporting from the annual AAA and AES meetings.

Each year, the Editorial Intern team meets in person at the AES spring meeting and the AAA annual meeting, or meets virtually in pandemic times. AES provides travel funds to editorial team members for these meetings. Currently, the AAA annual meeting is still a possibility for November 17-21 in Baltimore, international health and travel conditions pending.

Eligibility

  • Prospective interns must be enrolled in a PhD program in socio-cultural anthropology.
  • Participation in the intern program is a two-year commitment, with the possibility of extending one’s participation longer if desired. Applicant must be willing to commit for the period.
